Been in an accident? We know it's stressful. This guide walks you through every step of the insurance claim process — and Firebird Collision handles the hard parts for you.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS IN TEXAS
Texas law gives you the right to choose any licensed body shop for your repairs. Your insurance company may recommend their preferred shops, but you are never legally required to use them. You have the right to choose Firebird Collision — and we will fight to make sure your vehicle is repaired completely and correctly.
Immediately after an accident, check yourself and all passengers for injuries. If anyone is hurt, call 911 right away. Turn on your hazard lights and, if it is safe to do so, move your vehicle out of traffic. Never admit fault at the scene — simply exchange information.
Documentation is critical for your insurance claim. Use your phone to photograph everything: all vehicles involved, the damage to each vehicle, the accident scene from multiple angles, any skid marks or road conditions, and the other driver's license plate, insurance card, and driver's license.
In Texas, you are required to report accidents involving injury, death, or property damage over $1,000. Even for minor accidents, a police report creates an official record that protects you during the claims process. Request the report number before leaving the scene.
Contact your insurance company as soon as possible after the accident — most policies require prompt notification. Have your policy number, the police report number, and the other driver's information ready. Report the facts accurately and avoid speculating about fault.
In Texas, you have the legal right to choose any licensed body shop — you are never required to use your insurance company's preferred shop. Bring your vehicle to Firebird Collision for a free, thorough estimate. We will document all damage using our professional estimating system and work directly with your insurance adjuster.
Once your claim is approved, we order parts and begin repairs. If we discover additional hidden damage during disassembly (which is common), we document it and submit a supplement to your insurer. We handle all back-and-forth with your adjuster — you don't need to fight for what your vehicle needs.
We have experience navigating every major insurance company's claim process.
Do I have to use my insurer's preferred shop?
No. Texas law gives you the right to choose any licensed body shop. We recommend choosing a shop that works for you, not your insurer.
What if the estimate is too low?
We handle supplements — if we find additional damage, we document it and submit to your insurer. You don't have to fight that battle.
How long does the claim process take?
Most claims are approved within 1–3 business days. Once approved, repair time depends on damage severity and parts availability.
What if the other driver is uninsured?
If you have uninsured motorist coverage, your own insurance covers the repair. We can help you understand your options when you come in.
